An event ticketing system for free and paid tickets

Issue free tickets with a QR code, or sell tickets online through your own Stripe account. Ticket categories, capacity, the registration window and approval are set per event. Free tickets cost nothing. Paid tickets carry 2.5 % + €0.50 per ticket on top of Stripe’s fee.

Why most ticketing software charges you for a free event

Most ticketing software for events is built around paid tickets. The business model is a fee per ticket, so a free event either pays a service charge anyway or gets a cut-down version with the provider’s branding on it. The alternative, a guest list in Excel, avoids the fee but loses everything else: capacity, a confirmation mail, a ticket to scan at the door.

Mission Support prices per workspace, not per ticket. A free event issues as many free tickets as the plan allows, with a QR code, a confirmation mail and a scanner at the door, and the invoice for that is zero. Paid tickets go through Stripe to your own account and carry a small platform fee only when money changes hands.

How ticketing works

  1. 1

Create the event and its tickets

Set the capacity, the registration window and whether new registrations need your approval. Add ticket categories such as Standard, Member or Student, each with its own capacity. A category can carry a price or stay free.

  2. 2

    Guests register or buy

A free event uses the registration form on the event page. A paid event opens the ticket shop: the buyer picks quantities, applies a discount code if there is one and pays through Stripe Checkout. The ticket holders can be named after the purchase.

  3. 3

    The ticket goes out

Each guest gets a mail with the ticket link, the QR code as an image and as an attachment, the reference code and calendar links. The ticket page lives under your event address and opens on any phone without an app.

  4. 4

    The door scans it

Any phone browser is the scanner. A valid ticket is checked in on the first scan, a second scan is blocked, and the guest list shows live who has arrived.

Free event tickets: everything except the invoice

A free event needs no shop. Guests use the registration form on the event page, and the confirmation mail is the ticket. From the Plus plan it carries a QR code, inline and as a PNG attachment, and a link to the ticket page. The QR code is generated on our own servers; the ticket code never goes to a third-party service.

Capacity, a registration window, approval and companions all work on free tickets exactly as they do on paid ones. There is no service charge, no per-guest price and no fee on a free ticket, whatever the plan. The only thing a Free or Plus workspace shows is a small “Powered by Mission Support” line in the footer.

Sell tickets online through your own Stripe account

Paid tickets are a Pro feature, also available for one event with the single event pass. You connect a Stripe account under Settings, Payouts; the account belongs to your organisation, and Stripe pays out to your bank account on Stripe’s usual schedule. Mission Support never holds your ticket money.

Per ticket category you set a price in EUR or USD, a tax rate shown inclusive or added on top, a limit per order and a sales window. An early-bird category can simply close on a date while the standard category stays open. Discount codes take a percentage or a fixed amount off, with an optional usage limit and validity period.

An event can run the shop, the registration form, or both. The shop sells a quantity of tickets to one buyer, who names the holders afterwards through a claim link; the form registers one named guest and takes payment at the end. Orders, with their lines, amounts and status, are listed on the orders page, and a refund from there returns the money to the buyer and cancels the ticket.

What a paid ticket costs

The platform fee is 2.5 % of the ticket amount plus €0.50 per paid ticket. On a €20 ticket that is €1.00. Stripe charges its own processing fee on top, as with any Stripe payment, and both are deducted from the payment to your Stripe account. Per event you decide whether the platform fee is passed on to the buyer or absorbed in the ticket price; the shop states it either way.

A free ticket carries no fee. An order that a discount code brings to zero carries no fee either, and no payment page: the tickets go out straight away. The platform fee on a refunded ticket is not returned.

Capacity, registration window and approval

Every event has a capacity, and every ticket category can have its own. On Pro the event capacity is enforced: once the last seat is taken, the event page shows a sold-out notice and the form closes, so the guest hears it before typing rather than after. On Free and Plus the number is informational, and the plan’s guest limit closes registration instead.

The registration window has an opening and a closing time. Outside it the event page shows a notice, which you can replace with your own wording, for example where to get tickets at the door. Without a closing time, registration stops when the event ends.

With approval switched on, a new registration waits for you. The guest sees “Awaiting confirmation” on their ticket page, and the ticket mail with the QR code goes out only when you confirm. Companions, where allowed, get their own ticket and appear on the main guest’s ticket as well.

The ticket page under your own address

Each ticket has a page at your event address, for example yourname.mission-support.com/t/CODE or your own domain on Pro. It shows the event, the date and venue, the guest name, the status, the QR code and, if you want, the reference code in plain text for guests who prefer to say it at the door. Calendar links for Apple, Google and Outlook sit below.

The page follows the guest’s language, English, German or French, and your branding: logo, accent colour and dark mode. A checked-in guest keeps a valid ticket for re-entry. There is nothing to install and nothing to print; a guest who wants paper prints the mail.

Which plan you need

  • Free: registration form, confirmation mail and guest list for one live event with up to 100 guests. Capacity is informational, the confirmation carries no QR code.
  • Plus, €49 per month: QR tickets and the door scanner, calendar links in the ticket mail, companions, your own event address and logo. Five live events, 500 guests each.
  • Pro, €149 per month: everything in Plus, plus ticket sales via Stripe, discount codes, refunds, enforced capacity with a sold-out notice, personal invitations with approval, your own domain and white label. Unlimited live events, 2,000 guests each.
  • Single event pass, €199 one-off: the Pro features for one event with up to 500 guests, from any plan, including ticket sales.

Every new workspace starts with 14 days of Pro, no card required. Prices exclude VAT; the same figures apply in USD.

Questions about ticketing

Are free tickets really free?

Yes. A free ticket carries no platform fee, no service charge and no per-guest price on any plan. The Free plan issues up to 100 tickets per event for one live event at no cost and with no time limit. QR codes on the ticket start with Plus, which is a flat monthly price, not a price per ticket.

What does a paid ticket cost me?

A platform fee of 2.5 % plus €0.50 per paid ticket, deducted from the payment to your Stripe account, plus Stripe’s own processing fee. On a €20 ticket the platform fee is €1.00. You can pass the platform fee on to the buyer per event. Ticket sales need the Pro plan or a single event pass.

Where does the ticket money go?

Straight to the Stripe account you connect, which belongs to your organisation. Stripe pays it out to your bank account on its usual schedule, and your Stripe dashboard shows every payment. Mission Support does not hold the money; a refund you issue comes out of your Stripe balance.

Do guests need an app or a wallet pass?

No. The ticket is a link in the mail that opens in any phone browser, with the QR code also attached as an image. Guests without a smartphone show the printed mail or say the reference code at the door. Apple and Google Wallet passes are planned but not available yet.

What happens when the event is full?

On Pro the capacity is enforced: the event page shows a sold-out notice and the form closes, so nobody registers into an event that has no seat left. Ticket categories can have their own limits, so the member category can sell out while standard tickets stay available. You can raise the capacity at any time.
